Sean O’Malley was asked about his colourful and eccentric hairstyle recently

Sugar Sean O’Malley picked up an excellent win at UFC 250 but some questions were asked about his hairstyle.

The American defeat Eddie Wineland with a walk-off knockout, but his colourful hair was also a talking point.

The 25-year-old is one of the rising stars of the UFC and was speaking to Ariel Helwani recently. Helwani started off by congratulating him but asked O’Malley how long it took to get the hair done.

“With everything from the beginning, probably 12 hours with everything”, replied the American.

O’Malley added that it might have taken longer to do the braids but it was done in three sittings and not continuously.

Sugar also was asked about his inspiration for the hair, and he went on to say it was rapper 6ix9ine.

“I wanted to do this for my debut, I wanted to establish my name in the UFC and didn’t want to come looking like a bit of a freak.

“Played out perfect and I was listening to 6ix9ine’s new song. If you are going to the gym and getting hyped up, I don’t know what he is saying too much. I think he is a character and I enjoy watching characters.”

O’Malley then revealed one of his friends had a similar hairstyle and wanted the UFC star to pick up the same:

“One of my buddies told me that ‘You should do your hair like 6ix9ine’”

Helwani then asked who did the hairstyle and O’Malley said it was his girlfriend. She has her own salon and the UFC star said she was a “black belt” in hairstyling.

Helwani asked if Sean would be changing his hair soon, and the UFC star had a funny response:

“I don’t know if I will ever have normal hair again.”

O’Malley also said that his team looked like Pokemon thanks to their hair and suggested his hairstyle makes him feel better in the Octagon.

Helwani also added that the hair helps O’Malley pop out in the Octagon, especially in this day and age where all fighters more or less wear the same outfits.
