The hunt for a backup fighter for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight is still on

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will settle the scores in their rivalry, come the 10th of July. The pair will be facing-off at UFC 264 in Las Vegas with a full house in attendance.

With the scoreline in their rivalry currently reading 1-1, a lot will be at stake for both, since the winner will also get to fight the champion Charles Oliveira in a title fight.

In a recent interaction at the UFC 263 media day, Drew Dober, who is set to take on Brad Riddell at UFC 263, expressed his desire to be the backup fighter for the upcoming trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.

When asked about which fighter he would like to face, Dober brought in the idea of being the backup fighter.

“Dustin Poirier is incredible. I would love to exchange with him. Conor McGregor (as well). If they’re looking for a backup depending on how Saturday night goes, I would love to be a backup for that fight.. The reason why I’m trying to get the win streak going and put the performances together because these are the type of guys I want to exchange with and put on shows for you.”

Drew Dober is currently ranked number 13 in the lightweight division

Dober will have a long way to go if he needs to matchup with the likes of Poirier and McGregor.

Just when he was picking up pace, notching up three victories in a row, he lost to Islam Makhachev at UFC 259, which pegged him back. A win against the Russian would have propelled him into the top 10 of the lightweight division rankings.

He will now be looking forward to seeing off Brad Riddell at UFC 263, and get back to winning ways.
