Joe Rogan tried to play matchmaker in the UFC Lightweight division by pairing up Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira
The UFC Lightweight division has several quality fighters looking to get the gold from Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The Russian retired from the promotion after defeating Justin Gaethje. His record stands at 29-0 and it seems unlikely he will be back for a 30th fight.
Dana White has been trying to get Khabib back but he has been open about an unofficial tournament to crown the UFC Lightweight champion.
Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler and Gaethje are some of the challengers for the gold.
Poirier and McGregor met at UFC 257 and it was The Diamond who picked up an impressive win. Oliveira, for his part, defeated Tony Ferguson and is on an eight-fight win streak. The Brazilian also impressed Khabib with his streak and Joe Rogan wanted the pair to clash.
Poirier vs Oliveira would be an amazing fight but it seems that they are not going to meet. Oliveira retweeted a story which carried Rogan’s comments and claimed he wanted to fight Poirier.
However, The Diamond wanted to go in another direction, something which Oliveira respected. Poirier too replied to this and wanted to move on. The Diamond also plugged his hot sauce product to Du Bronx:
Kevin Holland has some excellent plans for the Lightweight division
Oliveira and Poirier both deserve title shots but they seem to be going in opposite directions. The Diamond wants a third clash with McGregor, something that White seems open to.
The pair could meet in this summer and that would be a blockbuster fight. Oliveira’s next opponent hasn’t been confirmed but Kevin Holland wanted the Brazilian to fight for the title.
The UFC star was speaking on Rogan’s podcast and claimed Oliveira vs Chandler should take place, even for an interim title.
He didn’t want McGregor and Poirier to fight for the belt, even though this would be a money fight. White has some big decisions to make regarding this division and it will be interesting to see what is next.
Oliveira and Poirier could meet some time in the future but it seems that will happen soon.
