Dustin Poirier takes on Conor McGregor at UFC 264 on the 10th of July, later this year

After suffering a brutal knockout loss at UFC 178 in September 2014, Dustin Poirier was determined to see off Conor McGregor in their rematch at UFC 257. Poirier did so in style, as he knocked out the Irishman in two rounds, which was in turn, his first-ever knockout loss.

The immediate aftermath of UFC 257, saw the pair agreeing for a trilogy fight, which was made official a couple of months later.

This time, the fight will be taking place in front of a full house in Las Vegas, on the 10th of July.

Both the fighters have been training rigorously ahead of the fight, and a recent training video posted by Poirier’s strength and conditioning coach Phil Daru shows how intense ‘The Diamond’s training sessions have been.

Daru tweeted, “6 weeks out, #UFC264 @DustinPoirier, steady progressions.”

Daru was a part of the American Top Team, but was fired in 2020 along with Colby Covington. He is now a coach at Vaughan Sports Academy.

Artem Lobov gives his prediction for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3

Former UFC featherweight Artem Lobov, who most recently competed in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, gave his prediction for the trilogy fight.

Lobov claimed that his teammate McGregor would have made amends to his disappointing outing last time, and would knock Poirier out this time around.

Lobov claimed McGregor wouldn’t need more than two rounds to knock the ‘Diamond’ out.

Speaking to Bare Knuckle Uncensored, Lobov said:

“We have to give credit to Dustin. He’s done his homework. He’s improved a lot since the first fight and he did a good job. But I think now when Conor is switched on, he knows what’s up. His full focus is on this fight. He’s studied him, he looked at what the issues were in the second fight and honestly when Conor shows up like that? There’s no stopping him. So I see him stopping Dustin early, first, maybe second round. I want to say first. My prediction is first round but it could go into the second.” [via Bloody Elbow]
