15th March is now ‘Dustin Poirier Day’ in the city of Lafayette, Louisiana
UFC lightweight superstar and former champion, Dustin Poirier, has been doing some great work inside and outside the octagon.
His victory at UFC 257 in a non-title fight against Conor McGregor has shot his name further up the stratosphere of fame. ‘The Diamond’ beat ‘The Notorious One’ via TKO in round 2.
And since then, he has grabbed headlines for the advertisements he has been doing and the fighters that have been calling it out in hopes of a potential #1 contender match for UFC gold.
But he has also continued to make the papers for doing great work outside the arena. Poirier is heavily involved in charity work.
In honour of his efforts towards helping the underprivileged, the Mayor-President of his city, Lafayette, Louisiana, has handed him the keys to the city and named March 15th as ‘Dustin Poirier Day’.
The American runs The Good Fight foundation with his wife, where they work to better the lives of underprivileged children.
The foundation does everything, from building water wells in Africa, to sending children to school in America. Poirier also raises money for the foundation by auctioning off memorabilia.
And that is not all. He has also worked towards providing transportation, books, toys, food, etc. to kids who needed it, and meals to first responders as well as medical workers during the peak of the pandemic.
This work certainly deserves recognition and the Hot Sauce king continues to build his legend as a man who can do it all.
He is now primed to take on Conor McGregor in the summer in what would be a trilogy fight for the ages.
