Dustin Poirier refuses to rule out welterweight bout with Nate Diaz
Earlier this week, UFC star Nate Diaz called out Dustin Poirier for a fight in the 170 weight class.
Diaz has been out of action for over a year, but said that he is still looking to fight winners such as ‘The Diamond’ and Charles Oliveira.
To almost everyone, that seemed like wishful thinking. After all, Poirier is at the top of his game in the lightweight division and can expect a title shot soon.
So, a bout at welterweight against someone like Diaz would make very little sense. Now, however, Poirier says that it is a possibility.
The Diamond took to his Twitter account and replied to a fan asking about that bout at 170. He did not say yes, but he also did not say no, and in the world of MMA, that is enough for us to speculate on.
Well, when it comes to Dustin Poirier, as we saw above, the answer is both yes and no. However, if he is refusing to discard the possibility, that means it is something that interests him.
As for ‘Du Bronx’, the answer is a stellar ‘no’. At least for now. His team wants a title fight next for the Brazilian, and you really can’t blame them for that.
For Nate Diaz, a fight at 170 against Poirier, whenever it comes, would be huge. This would be a perfect way for him to make his comeback after such a long time out of action.
But that looks like something that would happen after a while. Poirier’s attention right now would be towards either a title fight, or a big-money rematch against Conor McGregor.
