Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy is all set to take place in July 2021
Setting up the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier must have been a roller-coaster affair for UFC.
At first, they wanted it, then they didn’t want it, and then they wanted it again… McGregor and Poirier have been embroiled in a war of words ever since UFC 257 concluded with a victory for ‘The Diamond’.
But there is no more confusion. The fight has a date, time and location as it will be the main event at UFC 264 on July 10, 2021, at the T-Mobile arena in Nevada.
The two have, of course, fought twice before. The first encounter at UFC 178 was won by ‘The Notorious One’ via a 1st round TKO, but Poirier won the rematch at UFC 251 in comprehensive fashion, leading many to question McGregor’s commitment to the sport.
And there is a lot riding now on the third fight with a lot of money and a potential title shot both on the line.
As with any big MMA fight, predictions have been flowing in about how this trilogy fight would end, and Poirier himself joined in on the action as he spoke on ESPN MMA earlier this week.
And he thinks he has it in him to stop Conor once again. The American, of course, finished Conor in round of their UFC 257 encounter.
“I’m gonna stop Conor again. July 10th, I’m gonna get my hand raised and I’m gonna finish Conor McGregor, again.”
He was then asked if it would be sooner or later than the round 2 TKO in their previous fight, to which Poirier had a cheeky answer, possibly referring to the ‘Mystic Mac’ lore that surrounds McGregor.
“I don’t do all that, I’m not…. I don’t do all that. I just show up ready to fight, man.”
