Dustin Poirier is ready to face Tony Ferguson in his next fight
Former UFC interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier is ready for his next fight. The Diamond defeated Dan Hooker in a great clash on June 27 and was called out by Tony Ferguson.
El Cucuy was speaking on Ariel Helwani’s show and he too was speaking about his next fight. Ferguson lost to Justin Gaethje for the interim Lightweight title recently and he has two names on his mind.
El Cucuy was open to fighting Conor McGregor or Poirier and said he would make it happen. Ferguson is also a former interim champion and hasn’t given up on his title dreams. He claimed that the winner of his next fight would face the champion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is the undisputed champion but will face Gaethje next as the title is defended. Poirier was more than happy to jump on board and responded to El Cucuy’s call out:
Poirier and Ferguson have never met in the Octagon and this would be an amazing fight. Ferguson is known for his unorthodox style and he would be a difficult task for Poirier.
The Diamond, for his part, is still one of the best to have fought in MMA. He did lose to Khabib before defeating Hooker, and could make another run for the title.
The Lightweight division is one of the most stacked ones in the UFC at the moment. Gaethje vs Khabib will also be another cracker and that should take place soon.
Dana White confirmed that the pair are to meet and many stars will be watching how this fight goes. Khabib is undefeated in his MMA career while Gaethje has been excellent in recent years.
Poirier or Ferguson could be the ideal opponents for the winner of that clash, but both have to get their A-game going to become champion.
