Dustin Poirier was impressive in his win over Dan Hooker and responded to facing Tony Ferguson next
Former UFC interim Lightweight champion Dustin Poirier returned to the promotion with a win over Dan Hooker.
The Diamond lost the interim title to Khabib Nurmagomedov nearly a year back. Poirier was back in action on Fight Night, and he seemed a little rusty at the start.
Hooker won the first two rounds but Poirier came roaring back to dominate the next three. He even quipped that he wanted a sixth round as Hooker was down on the floor.
Poirier spoke about taking a bit of a break now but was open to fighting later in the year or even next year.
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani made the prediction of Poirier facing Tony Ferguson next. However, the former champion suggested that he wants to take a break:
Damn!! Let me rest bruh!!! https://t.co/RgP5aOV0Co

Praise from the champion too
Khabib faces Justin Gaethje for the undisputed Lightweight title. However, the Russian is still the champion and had some great words for his rival.
Khabib had beaten Poirier to win the title, and said this was a “great fight”. Poirier also thanked the “champ” for this message, but a clash against Ferguson would be great.
Ferguson hasn’t fought since losing to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. This was for the interim Lightweight title, but Ferguson was destroyed by Gaethje.
Poirier has never faced Ferguson. However, The Diamond has beaten some of the biggest names in the business with wins over Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez and Anthony Pettis.
The 31-year-old still has a few quality years left in him, and it will be interesting to see who his next opponent is.
He could also get a title shot after Gaethje vs Khabib. However, Ferguson vs Poirier does have a nice ring to it.
