“The future is bright” – Dustin Poirier reveals what his plans for the next couple of weeks are

Dustin Poirier isn’t planning on getting into the Octagon anytime soon

Dustin Poirier is ready to relax a bit after his stunning win over Conor McGregor at UFC 257.

Poirier knocked McGregor out in the second round and put himself into the title scene. He was speaking to MMA Junkie and was asked about his next plans.

The Diamond wasn’t pushing for a fight anytime soon, despite the win over McGregor and confirmed he was going to take a bit of a break and enjoy a holiday.

“The future is bright, for sure,” Poirier said. “I haven’t even really thought about it that far. Might go on a snow trip with my wife and my daughter in a couple of weeks. That’s what next.”

Poirier deserves a break after the win but there is a lot of confusion over what happens in the Lightweight division.

Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t set to return and defend his title. Dana White has to take the title off the Russian but that cannot be handed to Poirier.

The uncrowned champion knows his worth

While White decides what to do with the gold, Poirier isn’t all that worried. He has been posting updates of him being the uncrowned champion and he knows his worth.

Poirier confirmed he was the best, if Khabib was out, and he knows the value of defeating someone like McGregor too:

“I am the uncrowned lightweight champ. If Khabib’s out, I am the best in the division. Former interim world champion, former title challenger. I just took out a two-division former world champion. I am the champ, I know that.”

It is to be seen what is next for Poirier but he certainly looked good in the win over the Irishman. Logically speaking, the next fight for Poirier should be for the title.

The UFC has to decide who he goes up against and there are a few names on the horizon. Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje are a couple.

Michael Chandler also impressed on his UFC debut on the same card as Poirier’s. However, The Diamond doesn’t want to fight Chandler since the former Bellator star still needs to do more since coming to the promotion.

Either way, Poirier is in a great position at the moment, and the only way is up for The Diamond.
