Dustin Poirier has set his sights on a fight with Colby Covington in July for his welterweight debut
Looks like former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has had enough of Colby Covington’s instigating callouts. The Louisiana fighter has apparently accepted a fight with Colby Covington for July 30th on the UFC 277 card.
Colby Covington has verbally eviscerated Poirier by hurling insults towards him, his wife and kids. He has slammed the ‘Diamond’ on several occasion for calling out washed out fighters or lightweights who jumped to welterweight, even claiming that he’s petrified to fight him.
Poirier on the other hand has been holding out for a fight against Nate Diaz, which the UFC is not a fan of. With no opponents lined up, Poirier has decided to settle his feud with former teammate Colby Covington, in back to back grudge match for ‘The Chaos’.
He posted a tweet saying, ‘.@ColbyCovMMA July 30th i accept’
Colby Covington would be one of the biggest tests in Dustin Poirier’s career so far.
‘Tony vs Hooker next’ – Dustin Poirier proffers the idea of a fight between Tony Ferguson and Dan Hooker
Dustin Poirier has kept himself busy with fan interactions on Twitter, while he continues to throw names at the UFC for a potential fight soon. Poirier hasn’t fought since he lost to Charles Oliveira, and suggested that he’s done with the lightweight division for good.
A fan tweeted at Poiried for his opinion on the idea of a few matchups. The fan said, ‘ You vs Chandler, Tony vs MCnuggets, only makes sense’
Tony has been on a four fight loosing streak, and has looked the inadequate and substandard in all his outings. He has only won probably one round in his last four fights, and fans as well as MMA fighters are worried for him. Hooker on the other hand is on a similar slant, having lost four of his last five fights.
Poirier replied to the fan account by saying, ‘ Tony vs Hooker is a fun fight’
