Dustin Poirier seems open to facing Tony Ferguson next

Former UFC interim Lightweight Champion, Dustin Poirier, was asked about a possible fight against Tony Ferguson.

The Diamond last fought against Dan Hooker on June 27 and picked up an impressive win. This was Poirier’s first fight since losing the interim title against Khabib Nurmagomedov and he certainly was the better man in this clash.

However, the 31-year-old seems interested in another big clash as he eyes gold. Dana White recently confirmed that Conor McGregor is out of action in 2020.

The UFC president added that there are no fights planned for McGregor in 2020. That set some fans crazy with one suggesting that a Ferguson vs Poirier clash could take place later this year.

Poirier responded to the post and claimed he was waiting for a call:

Poirier also provided a cryptic update on his 2020 fight plans:

A huge fight for the UFC

Ferguson and Poirier meeting in the UFC would be something great and could be one of the biggest fights of the year.

Poirier got a great win over Hooker. However, Ferguson lost to Justin Gaethje in a title bout.

The American was initially set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title. However, that got changed with Khabib being stuck in Russia due to travel restrictions.

Poirier and Ferguson are two of the biggest names in the promotion. A clash between them would easily be the main event of any card, and hopefully, UFC can pull it off.

The UFC has some huge fight cards coming soon, and they could fit Poirier vs Ferguson somewhere too.
