Eddie Alvarez believes Michael Chandler will struggle against Justin Gaethje
Chandler is among the best lightweights in the UFC. The newcomer has one win and one loss so far in the promotion. His loss came only recently at UFC 262, where he fought for the lightweight title against Charles Oliveira.
Aiming to get back to winning ways, ‘Iron Mike’ looks to fight Justin Gaethje, and believes that he would knock the ‘Highlight’ out.
However, former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez believes Gaethje would possibly be the worst possible matchup for Chandler. In a recent statement, Alvarez explained that Chandler would stand no chance against Gaethje.
Chandler refuted Alvarez’s claims in an interview with Damon Martin of MMA Fighting, saying that he wouldn’t have any trouble seeing off the number 2 ranked Gaethje.
And it looks like Alvarez just wouldn’t stop as he recently took to Twitter to once again point out that Chandler has been underestimating Gaethje.
Alvarez tweeted:
“I’m always rooting for ya Mike but there are a lot of things I can do that You just Can’t my friend. All the positive thinking in the world just won’t get ya there. Good Luck with Justin. He’s a Tornado of fist and kicks that I have No desire to rematch ever again .”
Despite holding a knockout win over Gaethje, Alvarez mentioned that he wouldn’t want to rematch the ‘Highlight’ ever again. Chandler should probably take this seriously.
Michael Chandler could probably get back into title contention
Chandler was inches close to the lightweight title when he almost had Oliveira knocked out in the first round. However, things went south soon, as he succumbed to a knockout in the very next round.
But Chandler is still ranked in the top 5 of the lightweight division. A win against Gaethje (in case the fight comes to fruition), might put him right back into title contention.
The Bellator legend is out here to prove that he is no slouch and so is his former promotion.
