The UFC seems set for Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 and Eddie Alvarez shared his thoughts on this clash

Eddie Alvarez might be fighting on ONE but the 37-year-old has taken on almost all the top stars in the UFC Lightweight division.

He has fought against Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier and is a former UFC and Bellator Lightweight champion.

While Alvarez is preparing for his next fight, he was asked about the McGregor vs Poirier trilogy. The UFC seems set to announce it sooner rather than later and Alvarez believed that the Irishman would be ready to deal with the calf kicks from Poirier:

“I think it is a pickle. I think Conor will, of course, be ready for the leg kicks.

“I don’t know if he will ever get himself conditioned himself for Dustin’s sprints. His ‘go-go’ agains, the way he does that, it is a beautiful way of fighting and it’s unique to him and it is hard to get ready for it inside the gym without getting really physical, like real wars.

“He does that so well, he is going to put those sprints on Conor and Conor’s conditioning needs to be ready for it.”

Dustin Poirier has a special hunger when compared to Conor McGregor

The calf kicks were a huge talking point in the last fight and McGregor recently said he would be dealing with them next time around.

The Irishman has been training hard since that loss at UFC 257 but Alvarez claimed that Poirier would still get the win in the third fight.

Alvarez brought up that Poirier never won the undisputed Lightweight title in the UFC. The former UFC star believed that would push him through and also named a few others that would have the same hunger:

“Outside of the kicks and sprints, whoever wants that strap the most, and Dustin’s never tasted it. Dustin has never got the real belt.

“I have to go with the guy who hasn’t tasted it yet. Conor, he has tasted the life, the hundreds of millions, he has tasted the strap, all of it.

“There is something deep down in Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira. Deep down there is a desire in the guys who haven’t tasted it and that kinda leans it over their way.”

It is to be seen when the fight is set up. Dana White claimed this could happen later in the summer and that could be the perfect time to set this up.
