Eddie Hearn will meet with Conor McGregor to close the €700,000 funding gap for the Katie Taylor bout
Katie Taylor’s rematch against Amanda Serrano for the world title may take place at Dublin’s Croke Park if Conor McGregor footed the “additional security bill” of £500,000. On May 20 in the city’s 3Arena, champion Taylor will take on Serrano. However, there was no agreement reached with the Gaelic Athletic Association.
On Monday, Eddie Hearn and Conor McGregor will meet in an effort to salvage Katie Taylor’s hopes of fighting in Croke Park. Taylor’s promoters decided that Croke Park was too pricey, despite the fact that it had previously been planned as the venue for the fight.
According to reports, €700,000 is needed for the battle to take place at GAA HQ, and Conor McGregor has openly pledged to sponsor the event. On Monday, Hearn and McGregor will meet at the Black Forge Inn to explore their last alternatives for rescuing the fight.
He said: “I spoke to him a few times and I will be flying out to see him on Monday. Our date is May 20 which is immovable because it’s built around the DAZN schedule. On Monday I’m hoping to fly into Ireland, to the Black Forge. We have been communicating on Twitter messages. I noticed he followed me on Twitter and I saw his tweet that he wants to make it happen. He loves Katie Taylor and he would love to help get it at Croke Park.”
“I haven’t given up but there is probably a 6 or €700,000 deficit of where we need to be. Maybe he can fill that. But it’s not a publicity stunt, I think he feels like it would be cool to be a part of that.”

Alexander Volkanovski welcomes a title fight with Conor McGregor if he gets past Michael Chandler
When their stint as coaches on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is finished, Conor McGregor will return to combat action against Michael Chandler. Alexander Volkanovski, who fights for the 155-pound strap next, is aware that there will be cries for McGregor to receive another shot at gold if McGregor is able to overcome Chandler.
UFC 284’s main event pits the division’s top pound-for-pound fighter, Alexander Volkanovski, against a formidable opponent in Islam Makhachev. Makhachev, the current lightweight champion and the second-best fighter in the world according to the P4P rankings, will be his opponent in the cage. This is a huge bout, and a chance for Volkanovski to go down in history as a two-division champion.
Speaking to the media ahead of the high-stake fight, Volaknovski claimed that if McGregor wins his fight against Chandler, ‘The Great’ is willing to offer him a shot at the 155-pound gold:
“That just puts Conor right back in the conversations for the belt and all that type of stuff. For people to say he wouldn’t deserve it and there’s no way they’re going to do that, you’re pretty crazy, right? It’s Conor McGregor, and if he takes out someone like Chandler, you know his name is going to be mentioned. You know people are going to be talking about him.”
