Edmen Shahbazyan predicted Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje and Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa
Undefeated UFC Middleweight star Edmen Shahbazyan was the latest guest on The Schmozone podcast.
Shahbazyan was also with his coach, Edmond Tarverdyan as they spoke to the Schmo and Helen Yee.
While the pair spoke on several topics such as how Shahbazyan got into MMA and his training time with Ronda Rousey, the 22-year-old did have a couple of predictions to share.
Shahbazyan was asked who would win between Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and his rival Paulo Costa.
The 22-year-old claimed that Adesanya would defeat the Brazilian but he would be coming for the title next:
“I think Adesanya will retain his belt for a little bit, until I come.”
Adesanya and Costa are also undefeated in their MMA careers and it will be interesting to see how this clash goes.
However, the pair spoke of an even bigger clash that is all set up.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje will take place for the undisputed Lightweight title. Khabib is the current champion while Gaethje is the interim one after defeating Tony Ferguson.
However, Khabib’s camp has been affected by the passing away of his father and coach, Abdulmanap.
While Khabib is undefeated in his MMA career, Shahbazyan believed the UFC would have a new champion:
“Yeah, that’s a good fight. Gaethje looked really good in his last fight against Ferguson. I thought Ferguson was going to win that fight.
“Coach was saying, ‘No, no, Gaethje is going to win this.’”
“Gaethje started tagging him up with a jab and like keeping his distance, clipping and moving. He looked really good and I think that’s going to be a really good fight.
“If Gaethje gets to stuff the takedowns, I think it’s going to be a good night for Gaethje.”
Shahbazyan’s coach also brought up how Khabib would deal with his father’s loss. Abdulmanap had been with Khabib throughout his career, and it will be interesting to see how motivated the champion is in his next battle.
As for Shahbazyan, he is 11-0 in his MMA career and next faces Derek Brunson. The 22-year-old seems to be made for MMA and a win in the main event at Fight Night 173 will place him closer to a title shot.
