Shane Burgos suffered a weird KO loss at the hands of Edson Barboza at UFC 262

What made UFC 262 ‘wilder’ than Deontay was, Edson Barboza’s knockout of Shane Burgos. The featherweights met in the main card at UFC 262, and were going bang-bang until the final round, when something really peculiar happened.

Barboza connected with a right hook that appeared to have rocked Burgos. But Burgos was on his feet, looking steady and focused.

Several seconds later his body started shutting down out of nowhere, as he went backwards crashing into the cage, before Barboza finished him off with a few more blows.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN MMA, Barboza revealed what exactly was going through his mind when Burgos started moving haphazardly. The Brazilian explained that he had no idea why Burgos was reacting like that or what punch of his did that to him.

Barboza said:

“It’s crazy because…I asked myself, ‘What happened?’…I start to see his leg shake a little bit. He’s slowly going down…I was like, ‘OK let’s go finish the fight’.

After finishing Burgos, Barboza revealed that he had gone to his coach and had asked him what happened.

Speaking about this Barboza said:

“I go straight, talk to my coach and asked, ‘what happened’?…Coz I really don’t remember what shot I connected made him go down like that.

Edson Barboza reveals that he has never seen such a thing happen before

Burgos’ KO got everyone watching worried, because no one had seen anything like that before. Barboza reiterated the same in the interview with Ariel Helwani.

The Brazilian revealed that he too has never seen such a thing happen. He was amazed at how much time it took for Burgos to go down after being hit.

Barboza said:

“That’s never happened to me. I’ve seen such things, but not that long…When you connect the shot, couple of seconds, 2-3 seconds they go down. I think this was 6 seconds, to connect and go down…6 second delay you know!”

However, Burgos is now okay and is doing well.
