Dominick Cruz faces Henry Cejudo at UFC 249 for the Bantamweight title

Returning UFC star Dominick Cruz highlighted what steps the promotion is taking ahead of UFC 249.

This would be the first UFC event in more than a month due to the coronavirus pandemic. Dana White has consistently stated that the safety of all performers is important, and the UFC is doing all it can to ensure no major Covid-19 incidents take place.

Cruz was speaking to ESPN ahead of the fight and was asked about the safety measures in place. The former Bantamweight champion shared some of the steps taken by the UFC, and that includes regular testing for the virus:

“Well, for instance, this morning I had to go in and get this swab test. They shoved this thing way deep into my nose to make sure I don’t have Covid.

“Every day we’re going to be tested. We each have our own saunas to cut weight, we have our own rooms, we’re all separate.

“They’re only going to have two opponents in the arena at one time. And, they are going to be moving in shifts, so there aren’t going to be a lot of people around.”

Cejudo is one of the best stars in the UFC now and has held the Flyweight belt too. He gave up that belt to concentrate on the Bantamweight division and has beaten all comers so far.

Cruz will be a tough test for Cejudo too, but the champion is the favourite ahead of UFC 249.
