Cheyanne Buys and JP Buys are one of MMA’s power couples
Cheyanne Buys is fresh off a victory over Gloria de Paula at UFC Vegas 33. ‘The Warrior Princess’ won the fight via. knockout in the very first round, that earned her a $50K bonus.
At the post-fight interview, a teary-eyed Buys explained how broke she was coming into the fight against de Paula, and sounded confident that Dana White would get her the $50K bonus for her performance.
Buys won the bonus, and at the post-fight presser, she shed light upon the fighter pay issue, explaining how a lot of fighters are being underpaid.
Her husband JP Buys was elated as well. The South African, only recently made his promotional debut after entering through Dana White’s Contender Series.
He took on UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Holland, and suffered a TKO loss to Bruno Silva.
The couple have been making waves of late, especially because of Buys hitting out at the UFC over the fighter pay issue.

JP Buys reveals when he started “fishing on social media”
The young couple detailed how they first met. They revealed that they met through the famed MMA gym Xtreme Couture, before going on to state how cornering a fight went a long way in them becoming a couple.
JP was quoted as saying:
“Through XC [Xtreme Couture]. I was fishing from far away. I was fishing from Africa, just trying to fish all the way here.”
Then, Cheyanne said:
“My coach, Dennis Davis, he was in South Africa cornering one of my teammates against him [JP was cornering a friend against Davis]. But, afterwards, they went out, they got drunk. And this guy [JP] was like, ‘Oh, who’s the hottest girl?'”
JP continued:
“‘I [opponent] think you like Cheyanne, she’s about your age?’ Then I started fishing, on social media.”
