Conor McGregor faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 but Dana White wants the Irishman to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov too
UFC 257 sees Conor McGregor take on Dustin Poirier in a huge fight but Dana White has other plans for the Irishman.
It is a known fact that McGregor is one of the biggest names in MMA and he brings in a ton of PPV sales.
McGregor had beaten Poirier in their previous meeting seven years ago. However, this is going to be a different fight. The pair are more mature than the last time they met and are also in another division.
The winner is expected to fight for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Lightweight title, but White already seems to be hedging his funds to one side.
McGregor vs Khabib 2?
White was speaking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN and brought up McGregor’s mentality. The Irishman has been preparing hard for this tough clash and already made a huge prediction of the same.
He has been talking up the game a lot and claimed he could defeat two of his previous versions too.
White claimed that this McGregor is the best he has seen and wanted the Irishman to take on Khabib again.
There are a few problems in this. Khabib retired from MMA and has always said he isn’t keen on returning. White isn’t giving up and has several meetings planned with the UFC great.
Khabib is 29-0 in his MMA career and some analysts have suggested that only a fight against Georges St-Pierre could see the Russian come back for the 30th fight.
There are a lot of issues in setting up Khabib vs McGregor, especially after the Russian defeated McGregor for the title.
However, this is a huge money fight and that could sell a lot of PPVs. Many fans though weren’t convinced of all this and blasted White for being money-minded.
