Dana White has confirmed that Israel Adesanya will next fight Jan Blachowicz for the UFC Light Heavyweight title as Robert Whittaker didn’t want to fight Izzy
Dana White dropped a few bombshells after Anderson Silva lost to Uriah Hall. The UFC president again wanted Silva to call his time in the Octagon after his latest loss but he had more to say.
White spoke about Khabib Nurmagomedov’s future but the other big talking point was around another champion.
Israel Adesanya seems set to battle for the title but it isn’t going to be a defence of his Middleweight one. White confirmed that Adesanya was going to face Jan Blachowicz for the Light Heavyweight title but was coy on when the clash would take place.
Adesanya is undefeated in his time in the UFC with a record of 20 wins and no losses. He is coming off a superb win over Paulo Costa and was expected to face former champion Robert Whittaker.
However, White confirmed that Whittaker didn’t want to face Adesanya, and termed it as “whack”.
Adesanya though wanted to challenge himself with the best and was willing to go up a division and face Blachowicz.
White doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to sharing what fighters say. His claim that Whittaker doesn’t want to fight Adesanya came as a bit of a surprise to the UFC fans, and they had a go at White.
Whittaker had just come off a great win over Jared Cannonier and was asked about getting his title back from Adesanya.
However, the former champ claimed he was keen on first spending some time off and enjoying Christmas, which is important to him.
Whittaker never openly said he didn’t want to fight Adesanya and it seems that White was stirring the pot for something big.
Adesanya going up one division takes him closer to fighting Jon Jones who is now in the Heavyweight one.
Also, pairing Adesanya against Blachowicz is a kick for the other Light Heavyweight contenders, and some fans were not having it at all.
