Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are set to meet a second time in the UFC
Dana White was almost forced to set up Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier for a second time as the two stars planned a charity bout.
Poirier and McGregor were both seeking fights over the past few months. Poirier seemed set to fight Tony Ferguson but the UFC couldn’t give him the right pay for a fight of this magnitude,
The Diamond pulled out of the clash and White wasn’t too pleased about all this. However, this could be one of the biggest fights of the year.
McGregor came back to form in a great clash against Donald Cerrone. The Notorious One defeated Cerrone in 40 seconds but shocked the world by retiring from fighting.
The former champion seems set to make a huge splash against Poirier and more details will be known in the days to come.
Set the date for 23 January
McGregor and Poirier also shared an exchange on social media. McGregor wanted to fight at Cowboy Stadium since it would be able to hold a huge crowd.
Poirier also was keen on the date since it was his birthday weekend, but wanted to know which division the pair would fight in.
Close to home for me on my birthday weekend! What weight? https://t.co/xLyWxWgFxh

A catchweight clash cannot be out of the equation since the fight wouldn’t be for the belt. It will be interesting to see how this fight goes.
McGregor had gotten the better of Poirier at UFC 178 but that seemed to be a turning point for the Diamond.
He moved to the Lightweight division after that and won the interim title by defeating Max Holloway.
However, Poirier lost that to Khabib Nurmagomedov in his next fight. Should Poirier and McGregor meet in the Lightweight division, the winner could get a shot at the title.
Khabib faces Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 and the promotion needs to find another challenger for the gold.
Conor McGregor agreeing to face Dustin Poirier in Jan is a huge for the #UFC.
This rematch is going to very interesting. Poirier has come on leaps & bounds since that loss 6 years ago.
And many are wondering if Conor is still an elite LW. All questions will be answered Jan 23. pic.twitter.com/E7ZddQ6Ksf

If McGregor vs. Poirier happens, I hope it's at 155 lbs. A genuine #1 lightweight contender fight needs to be at 1-5-5.
That's championship weight. https://t.co/NT8aWaIc5Z

Poirier beats McGregor. Conor is already thinking about another fight (boxing Manny). Poirier has improved more than Conor has since their first fight. 💎

To fight manny he's gonna have to be at least 153, and most likely 147

100%. You can't fight above 155 and then go up in the 155 rankings, which is what will surely happen. You need to make the cut and prove your yourself at that weight.
