Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor have agreed to a charity fight in December and that got a lot of people talking
Conor McGregor might have finally found his next fight as he agreed to face Dustin Poirier in a charity bout.
McGregor had been out of action since defeating Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. However, he claimed to have retired in July of 2020 and then spoke about returning to face Manny Pacquiao.
That fight might not take place as Ali Abdelaziz hit out at McGregor and Poirier then called out the Irishman.
The pair had met at UFC 178 where McGregor emerged victorious and they haven’t crossed paths since.
McGregor sensed a chance to fight and tweeted to Poirier but claimed this battle would not be in the UFC.
McGregor also added that this would be an exhibition fight and the Diamond was open to fighting on 12 December too.
The Notorious one confirmed the location for the fight, which would be in Ireland. He also claimed that this would be open weight with no weigh-ins and unified rules.
McGregor’s Sports and Entertainment company would arrange for the travel of Poirier’s family and coaches too while The Diamond’s Good Fight charity would be associated with the fight.
Poirier is known to do a lot of charity work with his foundation while McGregor added he wanted to help some charities out too.
This would be an amazing chance to see two of the best in the world in an exhibition. While it isn’t going to be a proper brutal affair, the chance to help a few charities out certainly has gotten a lot of people excited.
Jorge Masvidal, one of the biggest UFC stars, confirmed he was donating to Poirier’s charity and the Diamond was extremely pleased in all this.
Many UFC fans were also pleased seeing Poirier return to some sort of action. He was to face Tony Ferguson but the UFC weren’t willing to pay him as much as he wanted.
Poirier was supported by his rival, Ferguson too and the pair were pulled out of the event. It will be interesting to see how McGregor vs Poirier 2 goes but many fans were just excited at the charity fight announcement too.
