Khamzat Chimaev might have found a tough opponent as Gerald Meerschaert fights him next

The UFC has big plans for Khamzat Chimaev but the Swede must first beat Gerald Meerschaert in his next fight.

Chimaev seems to be the next big thing in the UFC. The Swede is 8-0 and won both his UFC fights in the span of 10 days.

That was an impressive performance as he fought in two different divisions and won both his fights with ease.

He wanted another fight quickly and the UFC seems to have relented. The Swede will be in action on September 19 against Meerschaert and there could be a bigger prize for him.

Should Chimaev get the better of the American, a clash against Demian Maia is on the cards. Maia is one of the best to have ever fought in the UFC and that could be a slobber knocker of an affair.

Meerschaert sends a message

While the 32-year-old Meerschaert would come into this fight as an underdog, he certainly is confident of getting a win.

The American has 31 wins and 13 losses in his MMA career and is coming off a loss in his last clash. That took place at UFC 250 as Meerschaert was defeated by Ian Heinisch.

Chimaev certainly has to be wary of the threat possessed by any UFC star and Meerschaert posted a warning to the Swede too.

However, this got a lot of fans talking. Meerschaert certainly got the attention of several UFC fans and some backed him to get the job done.

Others, however, believed that Chimaev would best the American and then set up a date with Maia.

The UFC certainly has a star on their hands, and if Chimaev gets two more wins, he could be in title contention soon.
