Luis Pena wants to replace Islam Makhachev and take on Rafael dos Anjos
Another UFC event was hit hard by an injury as Islam Makhachev pulled out of his fight against Rafael dos Anjos.
The Russian picked up an injury with the fight this Saturday and the UFC are hunting for a really short-notice replacement.
This fight was already postponed once when Dos Anjos caught Covid-19, and the Brazilian-American had one name on his mind now.
While he wished Makhachev a speedy recovery, the former UFC Lightweight champion called out Michael Chandler.
The former Bellator champion joined UFC recently and is yet to fight. Chandler served as the standby for the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje battle and has stated he wants to face a top five star.
It is to be seen if this fight is set up but another star put his name in the hat. Luis Pena was willing to fight Dos Anjos and that got a lot of people talking.
Pena isn’t in the best of form after being defeated by Khama Worthy in his last outing. The 27-year-old holds an MMA record of eight wins and three losses. Pena was also suspended for the use of marijuana, however, he was cleared to compete from 2 November, 2020.
Dos Anjos is a big name in the UFC and a clash against Chandler or Makhachev would have been great. The UFC will have to work its magic to find a quality short-notice opponent for the former champion.
However, many UFC fans didn’t think Pena vs Dos Anjos was a good clash for the 27-year-old. Some brought up his last fight while others believe that Dos Anjos would get an easy win over the “Violent Bob Ross” as Pena is called.
