Daniel Cormier was speaking to Ariel Helwani and spoke about what fights he wanted to see on UFC 249
Ariel Helwani and Daniel Cormier were speaking recently and were sceptical of UFC 249 taking place.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson was the man event of that card, however, Khabib is stuck in Russia.
There is no guarantee if he can return to the US for the fight, although Dana White has been adamant that UFC 249 will go on.
Helwani asked Cormier what he wanted to see if Khabib pulled out of the fight, and the former UFC champion claimed there were several stars who could face-off within the United States along.
The first fight that came to his mind was seeing Ferguson take on Justin Gaethje, should Khabib not come through.
Gaethje has been tipped to face Conor McGregor, but the Irishman has returned to his native for now.
The second fight featured two heavyweights with Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Francis Ngannou going head to head. That would be a tasty meeting but Cormier had another card up his sleeve.
He wanted Jorge Masvidal to take on Kamaru Usman, and that could be for the Welterweight title.
The biggest and baddest card yet
Helwani interrupted Cormier by suggesting that the card might be stacked, but the former champ echoed White’s comments of making UFC 249 the biggest and baddest card yet.
Cormier added Michelle Waterson taking on Rose Ramajunas as a quality women’s battle too.
There was some controversy in his next choice as he wanted Max Holloway to face Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley to take on Gilbert Burns.
Covington and Woodley have been in a battle of words, but Cormier suggested that he wanted that rivalry to take its time.
The card produced by Cormier had another couple of fights too and it does look stacked. However, it will be interesting to see what plans White has in mind for UFC 249.
Khabib vs Ferguson is still on, but it will be interesting to see what changes White might make in the card.
