Khamzat Chimaev was unable to finish Gilbert Burns
Khamzat Chimaev faced his biggest UFC test at UFC 273 and came out with a decent showing.
The undefeated MMA star faced former title challenger Gilbert Burns and got the win in the end. However, Chimaev was unable to finish off his opponent, something he had done to every other rival he had faced.
Burns, for his part, took Chimaev to deep waters throughout the three rounds, and the Brazilian could have won the fight.
Chimaev also didn’t really look like his dominant self but that was due to the Burns’ calibre. While the Swede was happy with the win, backstage footage has emerged of his thoughts after the win.
The Swede claimed that he didn’t actually do a good job, and “made many mistakes.”
Chimaev also claimed that he would watch the tape again. The Swede added that he was going to fix things and was upset he couldn’t finish off Burns.
Khamzat Chimaev learns a valuable lesson
There were many who were clamouring for Chimaev to get a title shot even before he faced Burns. However, this win proves that the Swede has to work hard to reach the next level.
Kamaru Usman is possibly the best UFC star on the roster and usurping the champion will not be easy.
Burns, Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington all tried to take the title away from
Usman. However, no one has been able to defeat Usman since the Nigerian Nightmare came to the UFC.
Chimaev probably needs another big fight before he gets a title shot but stranger things have happened in the UFC. The Burns win provided an idea of which part of his game he needs to work on, and hopefully, he is able to fix those errors.
