Alexander Volkanovski defeated Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273
Alexander Volkanovski proved his greatness as the UFC Featherweight champion at UFC 273. The Australian was originally set to face Max Holloway but injury to his rival changed plans.
Up stepped The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung, and there were some quarters that believed the Korean could get the win.
However, that was not the case. Volkanovski dominated the fight right from the start and it was referee Herb Dean who stepped in to stop the fight in the fourth round.
The Korean Zombie wasn’t knocked down when the fight was called off, but it was the right decision from Herb Dean.
There have been discussions if Volkanovski is the best ever UFC Featherweight, and there was some backing from Francis Ngannou after UFC 273.
The UFC Heavyweight Champion had some words for the Australian and claimed Volk was a “savage.”
What is next for Alexander Volkanovski?
Volkanovski now holds an incredible 24-1 MMA record, and realistically, he should face former champion, Max Holloway, for a trilogy.
Volkanovski won the UFC Featherweight title from Holloway in UFC 245. The rematch was a much closer affair and even though Volk won the title via a split decision, many believed it was Holloway who should have been the champion.
It only makes sense to pair the duo up for an exciting trilogy. No one has come close to taking the belt off of Volkanovski than Holloway.
There is no one else currently in the Featherweight division who could challenge for the gold now. Zombie was pushed into the fight despite not being on a huge winning streak, and he was defeated rather easily by Volkanovski.
