Marvin Vettori and Paulo Costa put on a fight for the ages in the main event of UFC Vegas 41
‘The Italian Dream’ Marvin Vettori survived mighty powerbombs from Paulo Costa to get the job done in the main event of UFC Vegas 41.
Both the fighters started out aggressively, with Costa even picking on Vettori even before the fight began.
As the rounds progressed, Vettori gradually began getting a foothold with his quick head strikes.
Costa, on the other hand, was all about body shots, mainly kicks. A massive talking point was Jason Herzog, the referee, handing Costa a minus 1 for his eye poke on Vettori.
In the last couple of rounds, Costa asserted his authority, and at one point in the final round, it looked like the indestructible Vettori would finally crumble. However, he held on and saw off the round.
Vettori’s chin stood out. He was magnanimously praised for his concrete chin (or granite, you name it).
In the end, Vettori emerged victorious via. unanimous decision, scoring 48-46 in all three judges’ scorecards.
Francis Ngannou reacts to Marvin Vettori vs Paulo Costa
UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou, who was all eyes on the game, gave his verdict on Twitter.
Taking to Twitter, the champ praised the toughness of Vettori before congratulating both the fighters.
Here is what he had to write:
Vettori is thought though. Great performance for both of them! #UFCVegas41
Vettori will now be looking forward to getting a title shot once again. Prior to facing Costa, he had lost to Israel Adesanya at UFC 263.
