Ciryl Gane will be taking on Derrick Lewis in an interim heavyweight title fight
Having beaten Alexander Volkov just a couple of days ago, Ciryl Gane’s next opponent has already been booked for his next fight.
The Frenchman will be taking on number 2 ranked heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 265 on the 7th of August. The event is set to take place in Houston, Texas.
Gane is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Vegas 30. He outstruck the Russian thoroughly putting on a striking masterclass to cement his position as the number 3 ranked heavyweight contender.
Gane is still undefeated in his MMA career. His record currently stands 9-0, with 6 wins in the UFC, in just a span of 2 years.
Derrick Lewis, on the other hand, last fought Curtis Blaydes, earlier this year. He demolished ‘Razor’ with a brutal knockout.
Francis Ngannou became the heavyweight champion at UFC 260 following a vicious knockout of Stipe Miocic.
He was then expected to face heavyweight newcomer and light-heavyweight GOAT Jon Jones. But a payment dispute meant that the fight would be handed to Derrick Lewis.
The latest development is that Ngannou isn’t happy with Lewis and Gane getting handed an interim title shot. Ngannou had been on an impressive win streak following his defeat to Lewis at UFC 226, but was never handed an interim title shot.
And now, just three months after his title win, the UFC has angered ‘The Predator’ by handing an interim title fight to Lewis and Gane.
A distraught Ngannou wrote:
“I remember my interim title fight against Jairzinho …. oh wait.”
Famed MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani pointed out to the same as well, explaining the injustice to Ngannou.
Quote tweeting Helwani’s tweet, Ngannou wrote:
“Nothing has been right here.”
