GSP and boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya were supposed to have a boxing bout under Triller Productions
Oscar De La Hoya recently blasted UFC President Dana White for blocking a possible boxing bout between him and UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre. De La Hoya accused White of denying GSP’s “biggest payday” ever.
This didn’t sit well with the boss, as he verbally destroyed De La Hoya and Triller Productions for ‘disturbing’ him. White exploded at the UFC 262 post-fight presser saying he didn’t give “a sh*t about De La Hoya and Triller Productions”.
One too many expletives were hurled at the post-fight presser.
More recently, GSP himself opened up on this issue. While he didn’t attack White in any way, he did express his dismay at being denied a fight with the boxing legend.
GSP felt that he White shouldn’t have done that because there was nothing more left in his MMA career (since he was already 40).
He said in an interview with Mick Joest:
“I understand that Dana didn’t want me to fight. However, it would have been fun. Because my career as a professional fighter, to become the best in the world in mixed martial arts, is done. I’m turning 40 years old tomorrow; I’m going to be 40 years old. It’s a young man’s game.” [via CinemaBlend]
Georges St-Pierre reveals why fighting Oscar De La Hoya was special to him
St-Pierre didn’t stop there. He claimed that fighting De La Hoya would have been a dream come true for him, since he was his second favourite boxer of all time. Second to the great Sugar Ray Leonard.
St-Pierre continued:
However, to rather fight a boxing match under the rules that Triller put on against the legendary Oscar De La Hoya? For me, it would have been a dream come true, because he is my second favorite boxer of all time, behind Sugar Ray Leonard. [via CinemaBlend]
A point worth mentioning here is that, UFC President Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya have been going at it, for quite a long time. Their rivalry was at its peak during Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor in August 2017.
