Gerald Meerschaert became the fighter with the most submission wins in the history of the UFC’s middleweight division after a brutal guillotine choke on Bartosz Fabinski.

Submission artist Meerschaert took on Fabinski in the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night : Whittaker vs Gastelum. After an aggressive start to the fight, as both the fighters swung wildly, Meerschaert executed an insane guillotine choke over the Pole.

The win earned Meerschaert the performance of the night award.

The submission artist was coming off a brutal KO loss against Khamzat Chimaev, and was elated to get back to winning ways.

With this victory, GM3 has 6 submission wins. The most by any fighter in the middleweight division. GM3 went past 4 other fighters notably Demian Maia, on his way to achieving the feat. A fan took to Twitter to point out the same.

He tweeted, “My brother just made UFC history with the most submissions by a middleweight champion. Proud is an understatement @The_Real_GM3‘.”

Though Meerschaert hasn’t been able to replicate his RFA (Resurrection Fighting Alliance) success in the UFC, he will cherish this record for years to come, provided he manages to keep this record. (Antonio Carlos Junior is knocking on the door with 5 wins and he is just 31!)

Meerschaert made an impressive start to his UFC career as he went 2-0 up in no time. He took on Joe Gigliotti on debut, winning via. an anaconda choke in the very first round.

And, just two months later he took on Ryan Janes, beating him via. an armbar submission, once again in the first round.

He still looks impressive for sure, after his nasty defeat at the hands of Khamzat Chimaev had a lot of fans worrying about the future of GM3.
