Gilbert Burns is to face Kamaru Usman next but took a shot at Leon Edwards again
The rivalry between Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards doesn’t seem to be stopping at all.
Things haven’t been great between the pair ever since Edwards lost his shot against Tyron Woodley and Burns took the chance with open arms.
The Brazilian defeated Woodley to become the No.1 contender for the UFC Welterweight title. Things didn’t work out for him as Burns had to withdraw from UFC 251 as he tested positive for Covid-19.
However, he has recovered from the virus and is to face Kamaru Usman again. Usman kept hold of the belt against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251 and this fight should be incredible.
Edwards running away from fights
Edwards could have been the one challenging Usman for the title. The British star is on an eight-fight and was to face Woodley. However, the coronavirus pandemic ensured he stayed in the UK and was unable to make it to the US for the fight.
There have been some voices suggesting that Edwards should get a crack at Usman’s title or even face Burns for a No.1 contender’s spot. However, Burns has shot that down in the past and took another jibe at Edwards.
The British star claimed that Masvidal doesn’t want to fight him and even claimed Burns is a b****.
Burns didn’t take too kindly to all this and suggested that Edwards had avoided title fights in the past. He also claimed that he would have destroyed Edwards had it not been for the title fight against Usman:
🛑 with the lies, multiple fights were offered to u n all declined a title included 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ The only reason i don’t whoop you next it’s because I’m fighting for the 🏆I’m different it’s no turning down fights on me! The word are on the street fight now or u r out of the Rankings 🤷🏾♂️ https://t.co/Seqk5a034b

While Burns is the right man to get a crack at the title, Edwards should be in the scene too, given his incredible record of late.
However, he missed out on the chance to win the crown due to the pandemic, and it will be interesting to see who he fights next.
