Gilbert Burns might be looking at a fight against Jorge Masvidal next
Gilbert Burns is ready to rough up Jorge Masvidal. The number 2 ranked welterweight contender is eager to get a couple of wins and fight for the title once again.
Taking to Twitter, Burns called out Masvidal for a fight in November or December, while showing respect to the veteran.
Using ‘Gamebred’s catchphrase “Super Necessary”, Burns tweeted:
“Hey @GamebredFighter you know it’s all respect from me, let’s dance in November or December. I’m ready my guy #supernecessary let’s do this.”
Burns is coming off a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson in the co-main event of UFC 264. And, earlier this year, Burns fought for the welterweight title against Kamaru Usman, and was defeated via. TKO in the third round.
Masvidal, on the other hand, is coming off his first-ever knockout loss in the UFC, at UFC 261. Like Burns, he fought for the title against Usman as well. He is ranked number 6 in the welterweight rankings.
Despite being in the UFC for quite a long time, Masvidal and Burns have never crossed paths inside the Octagon.
There is another man that has surged to the top in recent times – number 4 ranked Vicente Luque.
The submission artist is a real problem in the welterweight division, and is currently on a four-fight winning streak.
Following his win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 265, Luque called out Usman for a title shot, claiming that he has surely earned it now.
Masvidal and Burns might have to cross paths with Luque in the future. However, Luque is Burns’ dear friend and teammate and will be interesting to see how it turns out for the pair at the top of the welterweight ladder.
