Gilbert Burns has weighed in on the upcoming high stakes clash between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier at UFC 264

One of the biggest matchups of the year is inching closer. McGregor and Poirier will be fighting it out for the third time as they take center stage in the main event of UFC 264 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With the fight hardly a couple of days away, a lot is expected from ‘bad guy’ McGregor in the lead up to the fight.

There is a belief that his humble version last time around was the reason why he lost the fight at UFC 257.

At the UFC 264 media day, number 2 ranked UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns shared his thoughts on the McGregor vs Poirier trilogy.

‘Durinho’ brought up the version of McGregor that will be turning up for the event by referencing a prime Vitor Belfort.

“I don’t know. It is going to be a tough one. [I was asked the] Same question when I was training with Vitor Belfort in the beginning – ‘Which Vitor is gonna show up?’…That was the question when Vitor [prime] was fighting, and that’s the same question for Conor – ‘Which Conor is gonna show up?’…I don’t know, it’s going to be a good one.”

Gilbert Burns co-headlines UFC 264

Gilbert Burns has a crucial fight coming up at UFC 264 as well. He will be taking on Stephen Wonderboy Thompson in an important welterweight clash that could see the winner fight Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title.

Burns is coming off a title fight loss against Usman at UFC 258. The loss, however, did not affect his rankings as he currently sits at number 2.

Thompson, on the other hand, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Geoff Neal in December 2020. Many believe Thompson could pose a lot of problems, if he ever fought Usman.
