Jan Blachowicz defeated Aleksandar Rakic is his latest outing
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Glover Teixeira urged Jan Blachowicz to get a win before the Pole’s latest outing.
Teixeira defeated Blachowicz at UFC 267 to win the title. This was Blachowicz’s second title defence and it didn’t go well for the Polish star.
The Brazilian wanted Blachowicz to win and run the fight back. He got his wish, however, Teixeira also has to defeat Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 before getting to face the Pole.
The fight against Prochazka won’t be easy but Teixeira has experience on his side. The champion is on a six-fight winning streak and has beaten the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith during this run.
Teixeira also became the oldest first-time UFC Champion in history, and his performances have done the talking in the Octagon.
Rakic came into this fight on the back of consecutive wins. The fight was a close one in the first two rounds but disaster struck in the third one.
Rakic seemed to injured his knee and the fight was called off. It could have been an ACL injury for the Austrian and that means he would be out for quite a while. Rakic was ranked #3 in the division before this clash.
However, this is a big win for Blachowicz and it will be interesting to see if he does get a title fight next.
Teixeira has to get a win first, and the rematch could be great. Another great fight could be the one between Prochazka and Blachowicz, should Teixeira lost his gold.
The Light Heavyweight division seems to have a lot of top contenders, and that is great news for fight fans.
