Gregor Gillespie releases statement following rumors that the UFC had cut him from the roster
Once regarded as a hot prospect with immense championship calibre, Gregor Gillespie has seen plenty of ups and downs in the UFC. MMA fans were a bit concerned earlier today when news came out that Gregor Gillespie was removed from the voting rolls for UFC rankings suggesting that the company has cut him off.
Gillespie hasn’t fought since a May of 2021 TKO win over Carlos Diego Ferreira, which put him at number eight in the lightweight rankings. The UFC fighter was on a 13 fight win streak, before he faced Kevin Lee at UFC 244. Lee landed a demolishing kick to Gillespie’s dome, that shut his lights off completely in devastating fashion.
Since then, he has only fought once, but has a record of 7 wins and 1 loss in the UFC. Reacting to this on Twitter he said,
‘I am removed from the RANKINGS.. Not from the organization. (Fighters are removed after 12 months of inactivity). I am NOT GOING ANYWHERE! The UFC has always been great to me! 100% class! It is not their fault that I don’t have a fight. They Have offered me plenty of fights’
Gillespie also shared some insights on previous fight offers and what’s been going on with him currently. He also spoke about how some fighters have been refusing to fight him, and wants a fight against Beniel Dariush eventually. He has targeted a fight against Michael Chandler or Rafael Dos Anjos next.
He suggested that RDA accepted a fight against him on four days notice, but would refuse to do the same with a full camp. He said,‘ PS.. RDA, chandler, offer fucking stands. RDA was cool fighting me on 4 days notice (when i was on the top of a mountain 7 hrs away), but turns me down on a full camp.’
