Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor are two of the best in the world but what does Georges St-Pierre (GSP) think of them being on the MMA Mt Rushmore?
Georges St-Pierre will go down as one of the greatest MMA talents of all-time.
The Canadian won the Welterweight and Middleweight titles during his illustrious career in the UFC. GSP, as he is called, defended his Welterweight title on nine occasions. He also defeated Michael Bisping on his Middleweight debut to win the title but vacated it.
GSP hasn’t fought since 2017 and holds an MMA record of 26 wins and two losses. He features heavily in talks of being the greatest MMA talent event and also on the Mt Rushmore of the sport.
However, the Canadian was asked about his Mt Rushmore and brought up five names in all this.
The 39-year-old was speaking on the Complex Sports podcast and named Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Anderson Silva, Royce Gracie and Jon Jones (h/t Talk Sport):
“If you ask me who was the most dominating champion ever, then it’s Khabib Nurmagomedov, because he was undefeated, he probably never lost a round.”
He then spoke about Jon Jones and Anderson Silva:
“If you ask me who was the most dominating champion ever, then it’s Khabib Nurmagomedov, because he was undefeated, he probably never lost a round.
“Who has the most flamboyance? I think Anderson Silva because he had some crazy highlight reels.”
PPV and a special name for GSP
McGregor is one of the biggest money makers for the UFC and that was one reason why GSP put the Irishman on his Mt Rushmore:
“Who has the biggest draw in terms of who raised the bar in terms of pay-per-views and awareness for the sport? Conor McGregor.”
Gracie, however, is one of the pioneers in MMA. If it wasn’t for people like him, the UFC would not have grown as much as it has and GSP brought up why he also featured on his MMA greats list:
“Now I am going to go for my personal one. Who changed the game, who was the first one and did something that had never been done before? I think it’s Royce Gracie.”
GSP might have retired a while back but he has been linked with a fight against Khabib. That was touted to be the 30th fight for the Russian.
However, it seems unlikely that will take place now. Khabib has also retired and it will take a bit of a miracle for the pair to meet up in this dream outing.
