Chael Sonnen ripped into Jon Jones as the Light Heavyweight Champion threatened to quit the UFC and called Dana White a liar
Former UFC star Chael Sonnen had a lot to say to Jon Jones over the Light Heavyweight Champion’s recent antics.
Jones threw a fit on social media last night as he threatened to quit the UFC. The champion wanted to fight Francis Ngannou but wasn’t happy with the money being offered.
Jones had to go up a division but Dana White poured water over all that and said the fight was unlikely to happen.
Jones then called White a liar and wanted all the ‘text’ messages to be released. However, Sonnen lashed out at Jones and couldn’t believe what the champion was doing.
Sonnen first listed out a timeline how Jones was flip-flopping on his statements and then ripped into him:
“To take Jon [Jones] on his word would be that you are a doofus. He is showing you some emotion, doesn’t mean Jon’s being dishonest just that he changes his mind a lot.”
Sonnen also highlighted the problem with the fight as Jones had to move up, and Dana White tried to get things done.
Sonnen claimed that White was dealing with a couple of dumdums, but didn’t hit out at Ngannou and Jones trying to set up a fight.
White had spoken with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto and told that Jones was asking for too much money at the wrong time. The UFC isn’t getting gate receipts as much as they used to since there are no fans in the arena.
However, Sonnen was unhappy at how Jones took a shot at White, calling it “out of line”. Sonnen laughed out Jones claiming he had an obligation to the fans and a man of integrity:
“He was in handcuffs three weeks ago. He didn’t have an obligation to anyone!”
Jones also wanted White to release the text messages of their negotiations after calling the president a liar. White added that he wasn’t going to do so and Sonnen dared Jones to share them since the champion was the one who sent it.
Jones also tried to compare his wages to that of the NFL players, and that got Sonnen going:
“He declares that the NFL treats their athletes way better and he has evidence which is his brother.
“He never breaks down what he makes on a night versus what they make on a night because he would be making more a lot more due to the fact that he only does two matches a year versus their 16 games plus postseaso.
“Never factored in because he can’t do math!”
Sonnen ended by taking more shots at Jones’ business sense and went for the knockout blow:
“Getting business sense from Jon Jones, a guy who has never signed the front of a paycheck in his life, would make you a doofus.”
Sonnen also said that all of Jones’ ideas were swatted away and added that the champion didn’t know how business works.
