Henry Cejudo believes Sean O’Malley still has a lot to learn in MMA
Former UFC Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo highlighted that Sean O’Malley still has to work on his game.
O’Malley has been impressive since coming to the UFC and is unbeaten in his MMA career.
Sugar has also picked up viral knockouts in recent fights and did it again at UFC 250 against Eddie Wineland.
The Bantamweight division is stacked with quality talent, and this was highlighted by Joe Rogan on his show.
However, Cejudo explained what all O’Malley still has to do before becoming a top star:
“Let’s talk about Sean O’Malley. Listening to his interviews, you study these guys as you see where their mindset is and where their holes are going to be.
“They asked him ‘who do you want to fight next?’, and he is like ‘I just want to fight. I just want to fight the best strikers.’
“He never mentioned about taking anybody from the top 10 or 15, because in my opinion, he hasn’t really beat somebody like he is the real deal.”
Adding more to the skillset
Apart from O’Malley not calling out someone big, Cejudo claimed that the American needed to pick up his wrestling skills.
That is something that Cejudo knows from his Olympic days, and he wanted to see what could be done regarding this:
“It’s a striking game for him now. There is a whole another aspect and that’s called wrestling and jiu-jitsu.
“He has developed pretty good jiu-jitsu, but there is that other art that I want to see in a really good test and you are taking it to deep waters and then I will see your real colours.
“Then I will be like, ‘OK man, you are ready to take on anybody in the top 5.’”
Rogan did add that this was a different O’Malley to what we had seen in the past. The 25-year-old was a little loose and wilder then, but now, he seems to have a lot of focus when going into events.
O’Malley is undefeated in his MMA career and could be a future champion too. However, his vision is stacked with quality and stars such as Cody Garbrandt and Aljamain Sterling, who both won their clashes in incredible fashion at UFC 250.
