‘Triple C’ gave his prediction for the upcoming showdown between Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards at UFC 263
Nate Diaz will be stepping inside the Octagon after almost two years. This will be the Stockton native’s first fight since UFC 244 in November 2019 where he faced Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title.
A win here for Diaz would put him one step closer to the welterweight title, at least that is what UFC President Dana White says.
In Diaz’s path stands Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards who hasn’t been beaten in almost 6 years, and is on an 8 match win streak.
Elsewhere, retired UFC fighter Henry Cejudo weighed in on the Diaz-Edwards bout. ‘Triple C’ claimed that Diaz would have a tough outing against Edwards, however, he divulged that he would be rooting for the ‘Stockton Slugger‘.
“I think that’s a tough one for Nate [Diaz], because Leon Edwards- he is no slouch and he did get better after Kamaru Usman beat him and I believe he is the only guy that could beat Leon Edwards…If Nate Diaz does happen to win and I’m rooting for him…It’ll be a big win and I think he’s next to get the title shot.”
It is worth noting that, Cejudo is currently retired and recently got his name removed from the USADA testing pool.
Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards will be the first non-title 5-rounder
Diaz vs Edwards will be the first time the UFC is hosting a non-title 5-round fight in their history.
The card is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori and co-headlined by a flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
Therefore, the UFC went ahead with the plan of hosting a ‘tri-main’ event, due to the very presence of Diaz. ‘The Stockton Slugger’ loves a 5-rounder.
