Henry Cejudo claimed Cory Sandhagen would get a title shot ahead of Aljamain Sterling
Cory Sandhagen produced a quality performance against Marlon Moraes at UFC Fight Island 5.
The 28-year-old was coming off a loss to Aljamain Sterling but knocked out Moraes with a spinning kick and finished him off with punches.
Sandhagen also called out Moraes for a broken orbital bone after a kick, and this might have put him back in the title scene.
At least, that is what former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo claimed. Triple C was watching the fight and suggested that Sandhagen would get a crack at Bantamweight champion Petr Yan ahead of Aljamain Sterling.
Sterling had defeated Sandhagen in his previous fight and many had claimed he should be the one to get a crack at Yan.
Some even claimed that Yan and Sterling should have fought for the belt earlier, but this Sandhagen win got the Funk Master and Triple C talking.
The Funk Master has been brilliant in recent fights and him getting a shot would be the right call. Yan has also stated he would be open to facing Sterling and the Funk Master tried to set the fight up for UFC 256.
However, Yan claimed that Dana White had other plans for the main event at 256. While Sterling told Cejudo to stay retired and let the other fighters speak, Triple C didn’t waste time to respond:
It will be interesting to see what happens next in the Bantamweight division of the UFC. This is one of the most stacked divisions in the promotion and Sandhagen’s win does lead to more questions on who faces Yan next.
White isn’t keen on setting up a Sterling vs Yan clash for the title, and that seems to be riling up the Funk Master a lot.
