Jimmy Crute was left with a dead leg at UFC 261 leading to a doctor stoppage loss for the Australian
Crute’s fight against Anthony Smith at UFC 261 came to a premature end after Smith’s kick hurt Crute’s peroneal nerve causing his leg to go numb. The doctor did not allow the fight to go ahead, and Smith won the fight via. TKO (Doctor Stoppage).
This was brought up in this week’s DC & Helwani’s MMA Show, and Daniel Cormier pointed out how former two-division champion Henry Cejudo had fought with a dead leg and went on to beat Demetrious Johnson of all people, at UFC 227.
Cejudo posted the clip of the same on Twitter and claimed that there have been a lot of fighters who can’t take even a little pain, before going on to say that his mentality was the reason why he stood out as a legend.
Since the video posted was about Crute as well, Crute was offended by Cejudo’s tweet, and called Triple C an idiot saying that he had tried his best to convince the doctor to let him fight on.
Cejudo replied that the tweet wasn’t aimed at Crute, and was aimed at the recent controversial fights like Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan, and Eddie Alvarez getting disqualified.
Crute then replied that the video was literally about his fight, before going on to express his hate for the trend of taking outs in fights.
Crute tweeted:
“The video was literally about my fight lol. I tried to convince he doctor my leg was all good and repeated over and over I can fight but the doctor wouldn’t give me the chance. But you’re right. The trend of taking outs in fights is getting beyond a joke.”
Cejudo then had a piece of advice for the young Australian. He wrote:
“Didn’t even see your fight but saw the situation. If I could give you my two cents. Switch stance when hurt and float the leg until it wakes up. Trust me I know that shit hurts but that just the difference I show nothing. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I don’t know adversity.”
Jimmy Crute’s peroneal nerve was hurt, and so were his ligaments in the leg. But the Australian still doesn’t know if he need surgery or not, thanks to the strict quarantine rules in America.
Speaking in an interview with Submission Radio, Crute explained that the peroneal nerve would heal with time, but he had to get it scanned because he felt he had done some ligament damage.
Crute then went on state that he has been left out in the dark, unable to get his leg scanned due to the quarantine rules. The Australian is stuck in his hotel room.
Hopefully, Crute makes a quick return to the octagon!
