Henry Cejudo vs Aljamain Sterling being targeted for UFC 287 according to reports

UFC 287 is scheduled for April 8, and it will feature a bantamweight title fight between current champion Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo according to rumors. MMA Fighting confirmed the news on Wednesday with multiple sources familiar with the promotion’s plans; however, no contracts have been issued or signed as of yet. The bout was supposed to take place at UFC 286, but Sterling has revealed he is still recovering from a torn bicep, which will necessitate more time off.

UFC officials have been working on scheduling the bantamweight title fight for some time, after both competitors confirmed that they anticipated fighting for the title in 2023. Sterling later revealed his injury, which forced any potential matchup to be postponed from March, when it was first speculated it might take place.

Sterling hopes to make it nine straight victories overall and his third straight title defence after beating Petr Yan and T.J. Dillashaw.

While this is going on, Cejudo makes his first UFC appearance since 2020, when he unexpectedly retired and gave up the bantamweight title following a victory over Dominick Cruz. The UFC bantamweight and flyweight titles had previously been held by Cejudo, making her a two-division champion. He has his sights set on Sterling in an attempt to reclaim his bantamweight championship.
