Owen Roddy took time off to speak with Ariel Helwani and his star Conor McGregor and a possible fight against Justin Gaethje.
The Irish fighter won his return clash against Donald Cerrone and there has been talk of him fighting again in July.
The UFC has postponed all fights till UFC 249 which sees Khabib Nurmagomedov defend his title against Tony Ferguson.
However, the world is in lock-down until then and Roddy was in Ireland with his family. McGregor’s coach was handling the coronavirus situation well and said he was enjoying spending time with his family
Helwani then asked about McGregor returning for another fight this year, something that Roddy was open to:
“Most definitely, that’s the plan. Bring the UFC back to life as well for this.
“Shows being cancelled and stuff like that. I think a fight on July 11 would bring the UFC back to life and get everybody back on track.”
Justin Gaethje is the man who has been linked with the next shot at McGregor and Roddy was open to that clash too:
“Anyone, to be honest, maybe [Justin] Gaethje, there’s a lot of talk. He’s an exciting fighter, Gaethje. I would like to see that, am sure, you would like to see that. The rest of the world would like to see that.”
It will be interesting to see how things turn out in the coming weeks regarding the coronavirus.
Currently, there are flight restrictions all around the world and hopefully, things improve soon.
White confirmed that the next three UFC shows are off but is adamant that UFC 249 goes on. That is a bit of a risky move to make regarding a situation that is beyond control.
However, everyone wants to see UFC 249 and possibly the biggest fight of the year go without a hitch.
