Bas Rutten brought up Khabib Nurmagomedov in the MMA GOAT debate
The MMA GOAT debate has become heated in recent years as several greats showcase their abilities inside the cage.
The big problem with all this is comparing the stars from earlier generations to the ones now. Jon Jones, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre are a few names that are brought up regarding the current generation of stars.
However, older names such as Fedor Emelianenko have also cropped up several times. Bas Rutten is an MMA legend and a UFC Hall of Famer and he shared his thoughts on the same.
The former champion was speaking to Helen Yee and brought up Fedor, Kazushi Sakuraba and Georges St-Pierre.
However, Rutten also praised Khabib a lot and destroyed the notion that the Russian was a boring fighter, according to some:
“You look at Khabib Nurmagomedov. I mean all these guys, especially Khabib, he never lost.
“They always say he is a boring fighter, boring fighter? He’s finishing people. He finished people at the end of his career and that means that he is the champ and he fights the best guys on the planet and he is finishing these guys.
“He’s not boring to me. There is always a case to be made, look at Chuck Liddell. I don’t think you should look at the loses they had at the end of their career.”
Rutten brought up Liddell, Alistair Overeem and Fedor again. He wanted Fedor to be in the Hall of Fame but brought up an interesting topic.
Rutten didn’t want losses from the end of fighter’s careers to count for much. He wanted the results from their prime to be counted more and that is something to contemplate.
Liddell lost a few fights during the end of his career while Overeem has been on a bit of a slide in recent years too.
However, the pair achieved a lot during their prime days and that counts for a lot. Rutten did have one funny thing to say at the end as he wanted to try out stand-up comedy.
The former UFC star has faced some of the toughest men in the Octagon/ring but cracking jokes even for five-minutes seems to be a bit of a tough ask at the moment.
