Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier is one of the big fights in 2021 and Justin Gaethje shared his prediction for the same
Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion, Justin Gaethje, was busy training in Las Vegas and explained that he wanted to work out with some of the best.
Ali Abdelaziz called him down for training and he also spoke about working with UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman.
Gaethje had lost his last fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov, which turned out to be an emotional affair. Khabib retired after the clash while Gaethje is still keen on winning the outright title soon.
However, the American also gave his prediction for the huge Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier fight.
The pair had met in 2014 and it was McGregor who got the win. This fight will be in the Lightweight division with both stars eyeing the title.
Gaethje was speaking to Helen Yee and backed the Irishman to get the win:
“I don’t know. This is two really high level fighters now. Conor is really good and I do see him probably winning.
“I don’t know, it will be interesting to see if Dustin rises to the occasion.”
Not concerned about weight class
Yee also brought up the fact that they would be fighting in a different weight class since last time. However, Gaethje touched upon the experience of both stars coming into this:
“I don’t think that’s an issue. What’s different is their mindsets because of the places they are, the places they have gone since then.
“They are much different people since that fight. That will be interesting to see.”
Poirier had faced off against Gaethje a while back and it was the Diamond who got the win. Gaethje had been on a winning streak since then and it will be interesting to see how this fight goes.
McGregor and Poirier are two of the biggest names in the UFC and this should be a fight for the ages.
