Ahead of his scheduled fight against Jared Gordon at UFC 282, we take a look at home many calories Paddy Pimblett consumes
UK’s beloved MMA superstar Paddy Pimblett will return to the octagon, this time on US soil when he locks horns with Jared Gordon at UFC 282. Pimblett has been on a rampant run, scoring three victories in as many fights, all of which have come by finishes.
Pimblett has a reputation for swelling up in pounds, quickly after his fights owing to his love for junk food. ‘Baddy’ has previously claimed that he’d rather be fat and happy than trimmed and sad. He is often seen out of fight camps completely out of shape.
Even UFC President Dana White claimed that Pimblett’s lack of discipline is hampering the UFC’s plan for him. According to him, the UFC has to be very careful when they book his fights owing to the fact that he swells up a lot in between camps.
Pimblett, who regularly consumes nearly 10,000 calories has cut it down to 1400-1700 calories. In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, the Englishman’s friend and former training partner Joel McCarthy aka “The Macro Chef stated:
“Roughly he’s eating and consuming between 1400 and 1700 calories on a day. It makes it a whole lot easier that I’m a qualified chef as well, I’ve been through fight camps, I’ve cut weight, I’ve made weight. We have got the knowledge of healthy food and unhealthy food.”
On the same video, Pimblett said:
“There’s no rocket science to it, it’s not hard. Get yourself in a calorie deficit. Why do you think I get so fat? Because I go from eating like 1500 to 2000 calories a day to eating 8000 a day. That’s why the weight piles on. And that’s why it comes off so easy. Well, not proper easy, but Macro Chef makes it easy.”
Paddy Pimblett has emerged as one of the biggest superstars to emerge out of the European MMA circuit. While the UK fighter is being fed with warm-up competition while the UFC tries to build his brand, his last fight against another eccentric personality Jordan Leavitt was probably his biggest test so far.
However, while speaking about how smooth the weight-cutting process went for the upcoming fight at UFC 282, Pimblett stated::
“The last camp was the worst camp of me life. I literally got back from America and I had seven weeks to make weight, the UFC announced that date and I was like ‘Well, I’m going to have to fight on it, aren’t I?’ It’s in the O2. I had like seven weeks to lose like 20 kilos and I’ve done it. Where I’m at now, I’ve got nine kilo to lose. I’ve done more than that overnight. I’ve done 8.4 kilos (18.5 pounds) overnight before. I can do 9 kilos (20 pounds) in four weeks.”
