Jorge Masvidal would have to drop weight to face Khabib Nurmagomedov

Jorge Masvidal shared his issues with dropping weight to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the 155 class.

Masvidal fights in the Welterweight division and would have to drop at least 15 pounds to face Khabib in the Lightweight one.

The American is set to fight Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight title and was asked if he planned to go after Khabib after beating Usman.

Masvidal claimed that the money had to be good, but he needed to do a lot of work to get into shape:

“The money, the moolah’s gonna top me.

“155 is just a battle with my weight when some are at around 170-173 pounds. I’m at 5% body fat already, 6% body fat so I don’t have a lot of room to play with and get to 155.

“It’s a lot of water, it’s always been a lot of water. It doesn’t leave me, on the night of the fight, in the best shape that I could possibly be in like I compete in [170] and have that explosion.”

Masvidal open to getting a shot

The BMF champion, however, didn’t rule out moving down a division. Masvidal reiterated that he needed to be paid handsomely to do that and wanted a “fair shot” too.

“That’s not to say I couldn’t win one and I couldn’t make the weight. I would just have to be rewarded so m************ handsomely for me to drop down to 55 and compete with everybody.

“I would love to do it because I never felt like I got my fair shot at 155.”

Masvidal also claimed that he didn’t get top opponents during his time in the Lightweight division, something that was given to him in the Welterweight one.

However, he first needs to get the better of Usman, and that won’t be an easy fight. The Lightweight division has several quality stars, and Masvidal would fit in perfectly.

The American is yet to win a championship in the UFC but that could change once he takes on Usman.
