Khabib Nurmagomedov left the US to continue his training in Russia for UFC 249

Chael Sonnen spoke about Sameera Khan claiming that Khabib Nurmagomedov could face off against Tony Ferguson at Chechnya.

The UFC has suspended all operations since UFC Brasil, however, Dana White has been adamant that 249 will take place.

Khabib Nurmagomedov defends his title against Tony Ferguson in that fight and has already left the US.

“She had a number of reasons including the fact that one country in the world that is yet to be hit by COVID 19 is Chechnya.”

Sonnen then highlighted why this made sense given that Khabib left the US for Russia to continue his training:

“Not to mention geographically how close that is to Khabib in conjunction with the fact that Khabib just left the aka and went home to Russia.

“I have to interpret that as a clue and where the fight is going to be I just have to interpret him leaving the States, getting further away from not only California but Nevada, which has the Apex.”

Interesting move by Khabib

The Russian moving back home is a bold move, and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Of course, important flights will still take place, and hopefully, Khabib can make it out of the country if needed.

Khabib vs Ferguson seems to be a cursed fight at the moment. The pair have been scheduled to meet four times in the past but all of them have been called off.

Hopefully, nothing of that sort happens this time and we get to see the clash on 18 April.
